• MORE ON MEDITATION? REALLY?

My clients sometimes raise their eyebrows at me when I once again mention meditation!  So perhaps by now I could let go of being surprised? Well, I’m truly not surprised, and also not discouraged! Because? I so deeply believe the quiet space inside each of us holds the insight, the information, the peace of mind, the time every single person needs to be connected to self and to others.

So what are the reasons so many of us resist or say it doesn’t work or are sometimes fearful of trying? Those are the legitimate reasons most back away.  The “excuses” have to do with time or “busyness” or failure to create a new habit/space in the day. Regardless of the reasons, try just recognizing what they are….and don’t be hard on yourself OR on the person YOU might be trying to influence in the direction of meditation if YOU already do it!  And I know many of you do meditate! Wonderful!

A good question is: What gets in MY way? For me, because I sometimes skip meditation…truly I do!….it’s because I “make something up in my head” about some other priority!  It’s easy to do, believe me.  And if you have a “full plate” with work, kids, family and tons of other “obligations” from the time your feet hit the floor, it gets even easier to convince yourself you don’t have time.

Consequently it has to be something you decide to do FOR AND WITH yourself because you come to believe the process gives you something — first for you — and second because meditation gives you enough to multiply your ability to give to others because you can and because you choose to.  It fills you, it clears you, it builds your inner strength and awareness.

Since I know many of you are already thinking about resolutions for change for the new year, consider making this something on your list….I’ll say more about it in another blog on the new year…..And if you need more information to support your decision, try the link below.  It’s an interview with Jon Kabat Zinn from a 60 Minutes interview.  I think it’s wonderful because he has the ability to make it so basic, simple, easy to learn to do…….

So give it a try!  You’ll truly be glad you did.
