• WILL YOU VOTE ON NOVEMBER 4TH?

I truly and deeply hope your answer to that question is yes! A resounding yes! And if you actually answer NO, I want to encourage you to explore the reasons — for any/all of us, WHAT keeps us from exercising our right to vote?

Right now several new laws get in the way of voting. An increasing number of states have passed restrictions making voting difficult for many to get to the polls or to register. Texas is the most “in the news” example, with predictions that as many as 600,000 people will not be able to vote because of new photo identity requirements.

But the question goes far beyond that horrific barrier. And perhaps could be asked this way: what are the reasons you DO VOTE? For me that’s easy. I grew up in a family focused on politics and involvement. I see voting as a right, a responsibility, an opportunity to make a statement about what I want to see happen — in my community, my state, my country. And today, in the climate of divisiveness, non-productivity in congress, massive problems that need attention, the voice of each individual is a necessity!

This November election is extremely important for multiple reasons….but for a minute, regardless of where you fall on the liberal/progressive — conservative/tea party continuum, this election is significant because of it being outrageously expensive. FOUR BILLION DOLLARS are being spent on this election. And it means individuals must have a voice in that kind of craziness.

Kenneth Vogel has a new book out: BIG MONEY. It’s about the super PACS and the super PAC funders. They range from Tom Steyer who wants to impact what’s happening with climate change. He’s a democrat and he’s put 67 MILLION into the November races.

The Koch Brothers are likely more familiar. The are spending 290 MILLION to help conservative and tea party candidates. And Sheldon Adelson also pours millions into conservative causes.

The newest effort is called MAY DAY. LAWRENCE LESSIG is working to create a “no strings attached congress”……The pac seeks to get money OUT of politics or to at least decrease money in politics. His super PAC has raised 10.5 MILLION in this effort.

So if you think brains and qualifications and an effort to move our country forward with good decisions and collaborative efforts on the part of our leaders, VS flooding the process with money, this PAC just might be where you put your energy and support.

Regardless of your position, regardless of who you want to win, wouldn’t it be wonderful if the quality of the candidate vs the amount of money they can spend would be the deciding factor? If so about the only way to help make that happen is to GO VOTE ON NOVEMBER 4th and in every other election! I certainly hope you are planning to do so!
